Configuring: Vertical Merge
Select the two datasets that you wish to merge, using the [control] button to highlight both datasets. The resulting dataset will contain the selected fields from the first dataset with the mapped fields from the second dataset placed underneath them.
Worked example: Vertical merge
Steps to configure
-
Field selection: Select the fields from the first dataset that you want to include in the vertical merge operation.
-
Map fields: Map the fields from the second dataset to the selected fields from the first dataset. Mapped fields will appear in the same column in the merged dataset.
-
Execution: A new dataset will be created, containing selected fields from both datasets listed underneath each other.
Step 1: Field selection
Select the fields from the first dataset that you want to use in this operation.
-
All the fields and field types will be available to select.
-
Default: all fields will be listed in the available window.
-
Minimum configuration: at least one field should be selected.
Step 2: Map fields
Map the fields from the second dataset to the selected fields from the first dataset. Mapped fields will appear in the same column in the merged dataset.
-
All the fields and field types will be available for selection.
-
Fields can only be mapped to fields of the same type (integer - integer, double - double, string - string and timestamp - timestamp).
-
Default: no fields are mapped.
-
Minimum configuration: all the fields from dataset one must be mapped.
Step 3: Execution
A new dataset will be created with the left hand dataset at the top of the newly created dataset, and the right hand dataset underneath this. Mapped fields appear in the same column in the merged dataset. This results in the timestamp field column not being continuous from the first row to the last if the two datasets had the same timestamp. The timestamp field column will also not necessarily be chronological.
